INTRODUCTION

Every ten years the international art world travels along the same route, following a rare and special constellation: three of the major art exhibitions and the leading art fair in the world are all held in the same year.

In May 2017 the 57th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia opens its doors, quickly followed by documenta 14 in Kassel, the 5thedition of the Skulptur Projekte Muenster and the 48th edition of Art Basel in June 2017.
This constellation is the ideal opportunity for a well-organised art excursion through Europe, carefully curated, led by specialists and offering a stress-free and simple journey to the must-see art events for its participants.
Like the European educational tours of the 18th and 19th century, at the time with a focus on destinations in Italy, the Grand Tour(ists) will experience an interesting insight view of what is relevant at the beginning of the new Millenium.

The 57th International
Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, Italy
10 – 12 May, 2017

VIVA ARTE VIVA

The 57th International Art Exhibition curated by Christine Macel will be our starting point of Manifesta Grand Tour 2017. Due to the overwhelming art program we will focus on carefully selected spots in the Giardini, the Arsenale and the other venues in Venice.

documenta 14
in Kassel, Germany
8 – 9 June, 2017

LEARNING FROM ATHENS

First time ever the documenta will take place at two sites, in Athens and in Kassel. It is the concept of Adam Szymczyk, artistic manager of documenta 14, who wants to break with the tradition of international large-scale exhibitions. “Learning from Athens” is the working title of the dual exhibition which takes the crisis of Greece as an inspiration for artistic explorations.

Skulptur Projekte
Münster 2017, Germany
10 – 11 June, 2017

5TH EDITION OF SKULPTUR PROJEKTE

Our third stop will lead us to Muenster, the host city of Skulptur Projekte, an international exhibition format initiated by Klaus Bußmann and Kasper König. This year for the 5th time around 30 artists develop new projects reflecting current global topics as well as contemporary terms of sculpture.

Art Basel*/LISTE Art Fair
Basel, Switzerland
12 – 13 June, 2017

LAST EXIT: BASEL

Last stop on our Manifesta Grand Tour is the art city Basel with their premier show Art Basel, the meeting point for leading international gallerists and collectors. And of course, we don‘t miss LISTE Art Fair Basel, which – since its founding in 1996 – has developed into one of the most important fairs for young galleries and the younger generation of artists.
